Channel Islands Surfboards Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer (Frp) Fin Set – 5 Fins – Fcs Base, Black, Medium
When al merrick began to Sketch out a fin design for his thrusters in the early 1980’s, he had no idea it would still be regarded as the world’s top fin 30 years later. Developed on the long walls of Rincon, under the feet of tom current, Shaun Tomson and al merrick, al’s template went through countless refinements during one of the best run of swells in California history. Long before the age of cad design, these fins were hand-tuned with sandpaper on the cobblestones of Rincon point between sets. The wide base, long rake, narrow tips and signature smaller center fin, are all Rincon bred. Al’s design creates drive from the rake and base, while allowing pivot with the narrow tips and smaller center fin. We find the design to be even more relevant today with boards becoming shorter, wider, with more rail curve, losing the drive associated with having straighter parallel rails. The combination of drive and release provided by al’s fin design remains in high demand. As fins make a significant difference in the way your board rides, al believed good board design starts with them being a 100% Constant. He wanted the fin template, splay and cant to remain unchanged in order to design boards without variables beyond his control. The last thirty years of the most cutting edge board design in history has been engineered around the al merrick template, and we’re now proud to offer new technology and colors in both one-tab and two-tab templates.
